Card Storage Box - With Tutorial!

Hi everyone!

I have been quite busy making cards lately and my poor blog has suffered because of it. I participate in some card challenges and am currently doing the Stretch Your Stamps Online Card Class, so I am building quite a collection of cards. I am also lazy and do not 'complete' the cards as I go - adding sentiment to inside and making envelopes. So I had to do something with my stockpile of cards. I intend selling them at a local market stall soon.

I have noticed some have started to come apart (tape peeling away) with our humid climate here in Oz, so I had to come up with something of a storage unit for them so they would be protected. So here is what I came up with! The overall measurements are 11 1/2" long, 5 1/2" wide and 6 3/4" tall. The box stores cards as large as 4 1/4" x 5 1/2".

The box holds anywhere from 60 to 80 cards, depending on how dimensional they are. I added a lid to the box which doesn't sit down on top of the cards. The strips at the sides of the box sit an inch from the top and stop the lid from pressing on the cards inside. Works great!

I have written instructions HERE for you to make it, I know I couldn't give even half of my cards away quicker than I make them, so having this storage box to store them in the interim is the best solution I could come up with.

If you follow my blog you know that I am an organisational freak, so I had to add dividers inside to sort the cards into categories.

Products used (grab them from www.scrapadabadoo.com):
Tim Holtz Wallflower paper (would have been awesome to have the vellum to go with this paper!)
Tim Holtz On the Edge FILE TAB die (if Barrie & Carol don't have it in stock, send them an email)

Here are some more pics!

Happy Scrappin'!

  1. I find it is the heat rather than the humidity that makes the double sided tape come apart. I therefore have taken to using glossy accents to glue all my stuff together, that way I know it will stay put.

  5. Hi Jen! This is a cool idea. I’ve always moved my cards and business envelope stuffs to the self storage unit ( Jiffy Storage) to avoid the clutter caused by them in the house. Even though that has always been helpful, there are times when you need to check them, like some emergencies. I hope to use this box to store my business letters, envelopes and important bank notices- all at one place. I was wondering how you made those categories on them! Thanks for sharing the idea with us Jen ! Looking forward to more hobby ideas from you !! :)

    1. Hi Michael
This is a great storage box for anything stationery related. It helps my cards stay 'safe' until ready to b used or sold.
The dividers were made from chipboard cut to
4 3/4" x 6 1/2", i then used the Tim Holtz 'On the Edge' die to cut the tabs, although you could just cut down 1/2" and across to however wide you wanted your tabs, then round the corners with a corner rounder. IMPORTANT TIP: Cover the 4 3/4"x6 1/2" piece of chipboard on both sides before cutting the tab.
      Hope this helps you Michael.
      Smiles
      Jen
