Somewhere in Time Mini Album for Scrapadabadoo Crafts

Back again with another project share!

I must say that I absolutely LOVE the Bo Bunny Somewhere in Time paper collection! I'm thinking it's up there at the top of my must have list! The colours are sooooo me! Blues, browns, yellows - absolutely love it!

Anyway, with all the gorgeous embellishments and ephemera available with this collection I just had to make a mini album, but not just any mini album - this one has a bit of an extra inclusion in it. Something that I haven't seen before in mini albums we currently make. With all the hype and activity with Project Life at the moment I wanted to try to incorporate a bit of that into a mini album, and I think I succeeded. Although I'm going to explore this style a bit more as time goes on I think :)

There are three different page designs I have used in this mini album (I took Kathy Orta's idea of the 'build a page' style and made my own different page designs). All three styles of pages have one foundation page on which I built the extra bits & pieces and I show you how to make all three in videos I have uploaded to YouTube. Card Storage Box - With Tutorial!

Hi everyone!

I have been quite busy making cards lately and my poor blog has suffered because of it. I participate in some card challenges and am currently doing the Stretch Your Stamps Online Card Class, so I am building quite a collection of cards. I am also lazy and do not 'complete' the cards as I go - adding sentiment to inside and making envelopes. So I had to do something with my stockpile of cards. I intend selling them at a local market stall soon.

I have noticed some have started to come apart (tape peeling away) with our humid climate here in Oz, so I had to come up with something of a storage unit for them so they would be protected. So here is what I came up with! The overall measurements are 11 1/2" long, 5 1/2" wide and 6 3/4" tall. The box stores cards as large as 4 1/4" x 5 1/2".

The box holds anywhere from 60 to 80 cards, depending on how dimensional they are. I added a lid to the box which doesn't sit down on top of the cards. The strips at the sides of the box sit an inch from the top and stop the lid from pressing on the cards inside. Works great!

I have written instructions HERE for you to make it, I know I couldn't give even half of my cards away quicker than I make them, so having this storage box to store them in the interim is the best solution I could come up with.

If you follow my blog you know that I am an organisational freak, so I had to add dividers inside to sort the cards into categories.

Hello Baby Configurations Book for Scrapadabadoo Crafts

Hi crafters!

I am so excited to finally reveal my latest project for Scrapadabadoo Crafts! This project is one very close to my heart as it is a gift to my daughter, Mandy to hold for her daughter, my only grand daughter Amelia.

It is made from a Tim Holtz Configurations Book - yes, but it is not embellished the way most of his configurations books have been. It is totally girly and beautiful! 

It is an heirloom book which holds a number of Amelia's baby mementos, such as a lock of hair from her first hair cut, her first hair bow, photos of her hand and foot prints, her birth certificate, a mini album with photos from each of the first 12 months of her life, and a heartfelt message from me, her nan, contained in a corked glass vial.

This is such a special project and what mother would not want to make it for their girl(s)?

The paper collection I used was Simple Stories 'Hello Baby'. There are so many cards, brads, papers and embellishments in this kit - enough to make many more projects! Fluttering by with a card

Hi everyone!

I've been MIA here on my blog and online for a bit and when I got roped into streaming today by a few people who shall remain nameless (you know who you are). THANK YOU! This was just the medicine I needed to get back in the groove, crafting for the FUN of it! I've been so bogged down by other projects lately that it was starting to become a chore, and I NEVER want that to happen. Crafting is supposed to be FUN!

When I stream, without a project in mind, and be instructed by the viewers it can go one of two ways (sometimes both lol) - either very stressful, as I don't take instruction too well lol, or it can be fun. Today was fun, so thank you to those who visited my stream today and joined in on the fun, it was awesome!

So.....what did we do for the FOUR HOURS I streamed? We made ONE card, yes - just one card lol. But it turned out to be a very pretty card. 

I started out 'trying' the Kristina Werner card technique of using distress inks on background stamps. I say tried because it didn't end up being exactly like Kristina's card, at all LOL.

We stamped a background with the distress inks, then used a few stencils (sunrays, stars, circles) with distress inks, then we brought out the VersaMark ink and gold embossing powder.

I wanted a butterfly on the card so I 'tried' the Twinkling H2O's, and the distress inks but it just wasn't working. So I just sponged some distress ink over a butterfly and applied VersaMark ink to the body and antennae, heat embossed it and thought I was done. Others had more in mind.

I took a Krylon Gold Leafing pen and inked around the card top edge, but that wasn't enough for some, they wanted me to get out the FlitterGlu and Mega Flakes.

So I daubed the FlitterGlu around the card edges and applied some Mega Flakes (can't remember the name, sorry) and it looked good. Thought I was finished again, but no! They wanted me to use the FlitterGlu and Mega Flakes on the butterfly too! So I took out a butterfly stamp, juiced it up with the FlitterGlu, applied the Mega Flakes and buffed it up - glad I listened to my friends, it turned out beautiful!

I die cut a frame, gold embossed the sentiment, edged the frame with the Krylon Gold Leafing pen, applied dimensional foam dots to the frame and stuck it all down onto the monochromatic background we made, then stuck it onto the white card base - upside down :(. So I cut the card down so I had the card top, white mat and matted that onto a pale lemon card base. Here is the finished product.

I had so much fun altering the Prima Bicycle! Unusual for me because I'm not one for embellishing, but me being me, decided to make sure it was a 'practical' project LOL. My bicycle is a working CLOCK! Yes, it actually works! Barrie sent me a clock mechanism which fits perfectly inside the large wheel of this bicycle and it works brilliantly!

I used a lot of Alcohol Inks and Vintaj Patinas, black gesso, and a whole lot of hot glue LOL.

The flowers are from IamRoses and were white so I just sprayed them with a touch of pink and blue and brown shades. I left the skeleton leaves' colour as is. I wanted to use some 'fresh' life in the project so kept the leaves nice and green.

I didn't have any metal pieces to use as a plaque so I cut a piece of chipboard, rounded the corners, punched a couple of holes to insert brads and coloured it up by painting it with black gesso, then added some Inka Gold and Gilders Paste waxes to grunge it up to make it look metallic and attached it with wet glue to the base. For the word TIME I punched them using the metal letter press punch alpha & numeric punch set so they were de-bossed into the chipboard.

It took me forEVER to find an old fashioned roman numeral clock face graphic on the internet but I finally found one (had to go with this one even though it had IIII for the 4 instead of what it should have been - IV). I cut out a 4 1/4" circle from chipboard and adhered patterned paper on top, cut around edges, sanded edges and inked the edges. I punched a hole in the centre with my Big Bite, attached the clock mechanism and set it aside.

I wanted some texture to the inside of the clock so I dry embossed a strip of Kraft-Tex, painted it with black gesso and coloured it up with some Inka Gold and Gilders Paste, adhered it to the back of the clock face (I used the packaging piece to cut the square tabs) and stuck it down inside the wheel!

Card Series - Hello #2

After all the stress, hustle and bustle of the Travel in Time with Scrapadabadoo ustream lead-up and show, I felt like just playing - and that's exactly what I did today!

I wanted to use some earth toneson this card, plus I wanted to do some stamping and die-cutting, so I decided to combine the two - sort of LOL.

I took a hello die, punched it out of tape-backed fun foam and mounted it on EZ-Mount. I tested the stamp but felt, as it was very thin, that it needed more height so I punched it again and adhered it on top of the other one, voila! Stamped perfectly.

I inked up the stamp and tested it by stamping on white cardstock, then stamped it again halfway down and offset to the right of the first stamp,without re-inking, and then used a lighter ink and repeated those two steps, used a lighter ink and did it again, and stamped again one more time so that I had stamped four solid images of the hello word and four second generation stamps.

It looked like a perfect background so I cut it down, inked the entire cardstock piece with old paper, inked edges with aged linen, then finally some brushed corduroy distress inks.

I attached a piece of kraft coloured cardstock, which I had sliced off a 1/2" piece and ran the larger piece through my BigShot using a Spellbinders die, adhered the two pieces down onto the white card base, leaving a 1/8" gap.

I made a bow out of some grosgrain ribbon and adhered it to the 1/2" strip.

I thought the hello background needed a little something so I die-cut the word hi using the Tim Holtz Wordplay die and kraft cardstock which I then heat embossed with Versamark ink and Queen's Gold embossing powder. I adhered the hi sentiment using dimensional foam.

I cut a piece of kraft cardstock, cut-embossed using the same die as was used on the front and stamped the sentiment.

I rounded the right corners using a 1/4" corner chopper.

Even though this card took me half a day to make, I was happy with the end result.
