Having Fun With Shipping Tags #9 - Sprays

Hi everyone!

Today's tag challenge was a challenge and a half!!! Those of you who have worked with sprays as backgrounds know how difficult it is to add layers and other mediums on top of them without the sprays being so dominant, particularly white!

Well I've been chained to my desk for a week trying to work this one out. I've used hair spray, gel medium, clear gesso and a lot of time and effort into trying to achieve the almost impossible LOL.

Anyway, in this tag challenge I have not succeeded in beating the sprays but watch out for the next post because the journal page based on this tag challenge worked, yes - SUCCESS! But only briefly unfortunately, it seems to be a hit and then a failure, then a failure, then a success. But I haven't given up!

Art Journal Page 202

Hi everyone!

Today's art journal page is based on the tag #8 - background reveal technique (see previous post HERE).

Even though I had issues with the masking fluid today I was much happier with the result of the journal page than I was with the tag LOL.

This is what the page looked like with all that paint sponged on it:

I'm not having much luck with this new craft room! I keep losing things (still looking for the ring cluster stencil) and can't find where I've actually stored tools and products yet *sigh*. Oh well, the more I play the more I'll get used to it, I guess :)

Having Fun With Shipping Tags #8 - Background Reveal

Hi everyone!

After 5 months of no crafting, no tag challenges (except for one that I did at Mandy's) I found it very hard to get back into the swing of things for this one. From start to finish I was not enjoying it at all. When I finally did the journal page based on this tag challenge I was much happier! Thank goodness the tags are only a guide and I'm learning from them also!

I did like how the sponged application of the paint looked, if only I didn't continue to cover it up LOL.

So today started out with just sponging on the mediums until I got sick of that LOL. Instead of the sponging technique this tag ended up being the background reveal - a technique I just love!

So I decided to get the gesso out and go over what I did! Pretty much did the same as before but without the masking fluid. I added the colour, traced some butterflies and painted around them to leave the coloured butterflies as the focal images. I'm not a fan of going over something I've created just because I didn't like it, but I did it for this one, given that it was a challenge LOL.

Don't give up on this one just yet - the journal page worked out great, and that's the whole point of the tags, to give something a go and try to create a page based on it.

Art Journal Page 200

Hi everyone!

I was able to complete this journal page straight after I created the tag #7 challenge! An achievement in itself after looking after the grandkids, searching for scissors and punches LOL.

So today's page is based on the 'Having Fun With Shipping Tags #7' challenge over on my FaceBook group 'Art Journal Techniques' page. Today's page was all about 'white space'!

This page came together very quickly and it's pretty simple but nice and bright and quite effective, I think.
