Card Series - Birthday #1

I don't buy scrapbooking or cardmaking magazines often but this particular one caught my eye. It's Australian Simply Cards and I love quite a few of the card layouts in it, so I decided to attempt one of them today by Designer - Bev Rochester.

As I'm still new to card-making, I decided to make it as close to the design as possible. When I get more confident I'll attempt card sketches and put my own spin on them - one day LOL.

So here's what I made today, with close-up shots - list of materials used is below the photos.

White cardstock cut at 12"x6" (folded to 6x6)

Storage Box - Alcohol Inks

Well, I went and bought more alcohol inks but didn't have anywhere to put them as my Tim Holtz Alcohol Ink Storage Case is FULL!!!

So I decided to make one. Took me a few hours, but worth it! The size is 6 1/4" square and the height is 3 1/4". The box holds 25 inks or stickles.

I used chipboard which I adhered together using kraft cardstock hinges using Scor-tape. I then covered the inside with paper, then decided to collage some DCWV "Once Upon A Time" papers on the outside.

The dividers inside were also made from chipboard, painstakingly cutting all notches with my craft knife. Worked well, I think.

Will be posting a video on YouTube as soon as I can edit it.

Tim Holtz Texture Fades Storage Album

Well, my first Ustream for 2012 went okay, I guess. Had a few viewers. I tried to prepare as much as I could before the stream, but I never seem to give myself enough time LOL. Oh well, we did get to see how it would look finished - except I changed the binding to ball chain, instead of ribbon.

I think I used almost all Tim Holtz/Ranger products with the exception of a couple of grungy, rusty items I received from Lorri (artivity on Ustream), along with some staples (scor-tape, wet adhesive, ribbon, chipboard),

So I am yet to fill this storage album - I'm sure it won't take me too long to fill it. The beauty of this album is that you can fill it as you get each texture fade.

Well, my New Year Resolution is to create and share more projects so I am going to try to do more YouTube videos and stream weekly each Friday 11am (Australian time), which is Thursday 8pm EST for the US gals. For the UK gals it will be midnight Thursday and for the NZ gals it will be 1pm Friday. So, the first 2012 stream will be BLACK FRIDAY 13th!

The first project I will be working on is a grungy Tim Holtz style storage album for my Embossing Folders. I hope you all work along with me and I'm now posting the materials you will need:

Cardboard boxes cut to size (I'm probably making mine 6 1/2" x 8")
Acrylic paint in brown shades
Rub 'n Buff in Gold or Spanish Copper or Bronze
Brown or Kraft coloured cardstock (for corners)
Chipboard alphas for cover (if you want a title, or you can make them and stack 'em)
Ticket punch (not necessary)
Ribbon, string or fibres for binding
Large eyelets for binding holes
Scotch Quick Dry adhesive (or any good wet adhesive)
Sanding block or file
Lots of stamps

Valentine's Day Engagement Ring Box

Well, I don't know what possessed me to make this. If you know me at all you know that I don't usually make anything that's NOT PRACTICAL - who knows! Maybe I just did it to see if I could. Oh well, I've put 5 videos on YouTube showing the making of this box and you can see the first one here. The music used in this series was written, played and recorded by my hubby.

The box is embellished enough to place an engagement ring inside, however you could add yummy chocolates too!

1 sheet of 3mm foam (for cushioning effect)

Card Box - Jean Style - #2

Another card box (again from Jean's tutorial) I made today from chipboard, K & Company's Wild Saffron paper, iamroses flowers, thickers alpha stickers which I painted using Tim Holtz's Sandal acrylic paint, Prima Say it in Pearls, Stampin' Up! lace, lace from A World of Lace, a lacy doily which I sprayed with Glimmer Mist, and lots of hot glue and Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive.

I painted all the edges & corners of the inside with a burgandy acrylic paint, then covered it all with more of K & Company's Wild Saffron paper. I inked up a piece of 5 7/8" x 2" tyvek with Ranger's Archival ink in Sepia and Maroon and adhered it to the top inside back of the box and the back inside of the lid using scor-tape.

I was going to attach some wooden feet to the box, but Mandy talked me out of it LOL.

Christmas Advent Calendars

Advent calendars I made for my 3 youngest grandchildren. I wish I'd never started! One was enough!!!

Cayden's was made after I'd made the other two quite some time, so I forgot the measuremeants and this one ended up being about an inch bigger than Justin's at 16" x 16".

Mandy thought Amelia's was too small to fit anything of any value in so I adapted the sizing to accommodate her wishes (LOL) and made this one 15" x 15".

This was the first advent calendar I made using the original Kathy Orta dimensions 12x12.

Card Box - Jean-style

A card box made from a bit of Jean's tutorial, a bit of my flopportunities and a LOT of PATIENCE from Jean (MusicScrp) today LOL.
The box is made from chipboard, covered with K & Company's Wild Saffron paper, embellished with lace, seam binding, gold trim and a lot of glue LOL.
I've used an old button for the knob on the front for the closure in conjunction with the seam binding.
Inside the box I've used a piece of paper from Basic Grey's basics kraft paper stack to line it.
I've also used an entire Tyvek envelope to stabilise the structure inside the box.
I had so much fun making this - now it's time to fill it with cards - might have to wait a bit for that - still working on my Christmas cards LOL.

I though it was time I made some Christmas cards this year. Past years I've just used store-bought cards. Had fun thinking of ways to make them just a bit different. Next year I'm thinking I'm gonna just make them all the SAME! LOL.

Xmas Lolly/Candy Wreath

Traditionally, I make a lolly wreath each Christmas, however I've been slack the last few years LOL. But I decided to go ahead and make one this year and this is the result!

Materials Used:
1 x wire coathanger shaped into a circle with hook
Green, Red, Silver & Gold curling ribbon
2 x large packets of wrapped toffees & eclairs
Piping for hook end
Ribbon for bow
Ribbon to wrap around top section where hook meets circle

I cut pieces of the curling ribbon into approximately 8" lengths. Then tied the curling ribbon to one end of the lolly wrapper and with the same piece of curling ribbon, tied the lolly onto the circle.

Do this for all lollies until the lollies reach about 2" from the beginning of the hook.

Wrap ribbon around where the end of the wire joins the hook to hide the uglies (optional as the lollies hide most of it anyway) and tape in place.

Take a piece of plastic tubing/piping and thread it onto the hook, covering as much of the hook base as possible.

Tie a bow using some pretty Christmas ribbon, and voila! Finished!

The beauty of this wreath is that you untie the free end of the lolly wrapper, take out the lolly, eat it and leave the wrapper still attached to the wreath!

Large Wallet Pocket Album

This is what I've been drawn to make in the last couple of days since I watched Clare's YouTube video on her Holly Jolly Christmas Wallet Pocket Album. Just love it! I'm thinking it can be used for a single event album such as Easter, birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, etc.

I used the Basic Grey cappella 6x6 paper pad AND YOU WILL USE IT ALL! This is a great way to use up your 6x6 packs!!!

The album measures 6 1/2 x 6 1/4 x 1/2 inch and has multiple fold-out sections.

The instructions stated to use a magnet for the closure, however mine didn't hold it together once I covered all the pages and added tags - then the pictures will have to be added, so I added a belly-band for the closure, embellished with a home-made paper flower inked up with LSG sprays and an epoxy brad.

There is little to no embellishments due to the size of the album when closed, apart from punched edges, stamping and bits and pieces of paper. Also used the Tim Holtz Alterations Movers & Shapers "Journey" die for the front of the album.

Loved this little album, Clare explains it very well - the "how to" is in 5 parts and there's another showing the tags she made.

ATC Folder with Openings for Tags Adhesive Guide

This is just a picture showing some scor-tape on various edges of the cut and folded piece of 12"x9" designer paper.

DO NOT USE SCOR-TAPE - it's just for demonstration purposes. Use a wet glue as the inserted tags will catch on the scor-tape, that's why you should use the wet glue.

This layout just shows where you place the wet glue (on the INSIDE) without having to check each time. It just makes it easier to have a guide.

ATC Folder from One 12x9 Piece of Designer Paper

Well I've had so much fun watching Artedar's stream and creating along with her making the ATC holder.

I used Kaiser Craft's Duchess Collection papers, lots of Tim Holtz distress inks and stamps. The ATC holder was made from one piece of 12" x 9" piece of designer paper.

I made the corner pockets out of file folders by cutting a piece at 2" x 1".

I made the tags using file folders as well and cut them to size as some of the pockets were different sizes due to the amount of Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive glue I used - more on some and less on others.

I just stamped and sprayed 4 of the ATC's just to add to the file folder until I receive (or make) more. One of them I made and the other was from an online Aussie friend, Lorri (Artivity).

These are great little stocking fillers for our crafty friends, don't you think?

Tag Book

This is a book of 10 tags which have been stamped only on the front. I've distressed the back with Vintage Photo distress ink and stamped journalling lines using a See D's rubber cling stamp.

I've used chipboard for the front and back covers, covered in designer paper (sorry, cannot remember name) then proceeded to embellish the front cover.

I cut some tags, inked them up, stamped on them and stacked them together at the top of the book. I used a Tim Holtz Word Tag "Artful" and a Tim Holtz Philosophy Tag "Play" and attached them with a Tim Holtz ball chain.

I then punched out "tag it" using a Sizzix die "Ransom" alphabet and heat embossed them using Versamark and Black embossing powder.

I then attached a piece of Tim Holtz Tissue Tape to the back of a fragment piece, added some string and attached it to the bottom of the book.

Added some fibres, set the eyelets and the book is finished and ready for the recipient (yes, it's going to a friend) to have fun making the tags.

Toilet Roll Mini Albums

I've only just made my first toilet roll mini album - can you believe it!

Although I haven't embellished them because I'm going to give them as gifts for Christmas to other scrappers who can embellish it to their own taste. Although I will make a few more and embellish those for stocking fillers for Christmas too.

Both these minis are using 6 toilet rolls, 2 binder rings, ribbon, a Tim Holtz Hardware Findings punch-out using GrungeBoard and inked up using Alcohol Inks, and a Tim Holtz Hitch Fastener.

The first mini is using the 7 Gypsies Gypsy Market paper stack and the second mini is using the Timepiece collection by Bo Bunny.

Tag for Lorri (artivity)

During a recent Ustream I made a tag and Lorri (Artivity) won it! So it will be on its way to Lorri very soon, along with a few extra goodies.

I inked the background with Tim Holtz Distress Inks, stamped with some clocks from the Plate 6 - Watches by Cherry Pie Art Stamps in Rich Cocoa Memento Ink.

I then found a couple of images on the web, printed them out and adhered them to the tag.

I typed up the phrase "time and tide waits for no man" and inked them up and cut each word out individually and adhered them to the tag.

I took a Tim Holtz Word Tag, stamped a clock image on the back of it and attached it using some ball chain.

I then took a strip of Tim Holtz tissue tape and attached it to the bottom of the tag.

I finished the tag off with some journalling paper on the back.

I've had a busy few months with Mandy's wedding, babysitting, and now a part-time job. So I'm still trying to get into some sort of routine. But I'm getting there! So you should see more posts from me on a regular basis - let's hope so anyway LOL.

My first page was done using my favourite colours - blue, brown and gold.
I also used my favourite art items - my Crafters Workshop stencils - just love them!
I used plenty of stamps on the background.
I hand drew the swirls and finished it off drawing a scalloped border.

Page 2
This page is an homage to my daughter Mandy and her fiance Tod. I used her wedding colours mostly - teal, black and silver.
The white circles are a symbol of the rings.
Lots of stampage in the background here also.

Page 3
This page was done after my daughter Mandy's Kitchen Tea and Hen's Night recently.
The glass is representative of her massive Hen's Night goblet (it holds an entire bottle of champagne).
The bus represents our transport to the restaurant and the fun we had on it!
The balloons are for the festivities.
I stamped a variety of kitchen utensils and aprons for the background too.

OMG! I finally was able to get my head around my PrismaColor pencils and Artedar's Whimsy Gurls drawings.
This one looked like she has attitude so I stamped ATTITUDE for the tile and decided to put the artistic definition of attitude as well and finished off with the exclamation marks which are representative of making a statement by a whimsy gurl with an ATTITUDE!

This page was done because I finally decided to fill up my Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst Sprays with water and test the colours.
I sprayed onto a piece of white cardstock and punched out a circle of the colour and adhered it to the lid of each of the spray bottles so I could see at a glance the exact colour of the spray.
I also sprayed on the journal page - all 20 of the sprays LOL.
Before I sprayed I covered the pages by stamping numbers using various stamp sets.
I used the Crafters Workshop "Mini Numerals" 6x6 stencil and applied some texture paste all over the pages. I then applied some rub-n-buff in Ebony, Spanish Copper and Grecian Gold, along with some Dazzle It metallic wax.
I then stamped the title using the Stampin' Up! Big Deal Alphabet alpha stamps onto a piece of thin netting and adhered it to the pages using Gel Medium. I then outlined all the letters using a white gel pen.
Then I finished it off with a banner type border using a Sharpie and Adirondak Gold acrylic paint.

Shabby Chic Mini Challenge with Michelle

Michelle (BohemianGypsy99) set a challenge for us both after we told each other that our crafting had come to a standstill.

Our challenge was to create a Shabby Chic mini album using 7 pages made of the Multi-Pocket Page by LakeAvenueDesigns.

It must have flowers, lace, dry and heat embossing, at least one transparency and buttons.

This challenge was to try and get us out of our comfort zone - and boy did it do that!!! If you know me, you know that I'm a vintage grunge kind of gal. Oh, and one more thing - we had only 2 weeks to complete the mini - bound and full of tags!

How did I do?

I used some pieces of painted paper from a friend, Barb so I decided to create a patchwork effect on this page with the pieces.
I finished by adding a "stitch-in-the-ditch" using a white gel pen.
I really love the simplicity and the colours in this page.

I started this page on a subject completely different to this - even down to different colours and it wasn't working, so I just painted over it.
I was fairly happy with the page until I added the red! Big mistake, but I left it due to the fact that it was all about the mess, turmoil and destruction which mother nature has created this year so far.

Once again I was challenged to do a bright page as I tend to use more earthy, grungy colours in my art journal. TheHappyDiane on Ustream shook her head when, after I painted a nice bright Raincoat Yellow base on the page, Diane said how nice and bright it was. I replied, saying "wait till you see what it looks like when I use the colours I had selected, and proceded to show Diane the deep burgandy and burnt umber. Diane shook her head. So, I decided to go with the bright colours and the following is what I came up with.

I also decided to use some stencils on this page, and enter it into Paula's Stencil Challenge (Journal Artista).

Remember the old computer game, Pipes?

Well, Mandy (my youngest daughter) challenged me once again. But this time she challenged me to use black, white and metallic colours. I cheated and added the blue.

I started on a black paper page, added some white gesso, then started stamping with paint and ink some gears, keys, barbed wire and clocks - anything metal that I could get my hands on LOL.

Then I was stuck! What to do after I'd done that - then it came to me - pipes! But how to get those darn pipes onto the pages and have them actually look like pipes LOL. I started using masking tape to ensure straight lines - failed miserably and just used freehand.

This is the result!

I'd played around with the background on these pages a while ago and only just decided what to do with it. So, for anyone out there that gets stuck on a page - LEAVE IT, and go back to it later - it works! LOL. I just added some old decoupage pics of birds to the background as the colours seemed to match.

This page was created during a recent ustream with suggestions by everyone so it's not just my page lol.

We used acrylic paints in shades of brown, blue, black and gold
We also used the newspaper designer paper by Stampin' Up!
The barbed wire mask by Tim Holtz was used (black paint masked)
A crown mask by Tattered Angels
Some old decoupage paper I had (years old) with US money.
Also used some Bronze glimmer mist.
And what journal page would be complete without some gesso and some gel medium LOL!
A clock and some gears stamps - Sense of Time by Stampin' Up!
The RAPTURE title was used with some clear alpha stamps (sorry, don't know who makes them)
It's loosely based on the RAPTURE prediction.

USTREAM Vintage Mini Album - Progress

Well, USTREAM has been fairly kind to me the last couple of days, so I think I'll continue to stream unscheduled for a while longer until I get some more feedback as to the days and times you all would like me to set up a regular stream.

So, for now whenever I craft, I will more than likely stream it. I'm still working on the vintage mini album although I think I'm halfway done now. Woohoo! On the downhill run!

My Introduction to USTREAM

Well, my introduction to streaming on USTREAM has come with mixed emotions.

Firstly, I must give a HUGE thank you to all you wonderful crafters out there who stayed with me during the last couple of days of streaming. I really don't know what happened - USTREAM kept cutting in and out and I eventually stopped the recording to see if that would help but it decided to keep switching the recordings back on so I ended up with pages and pages of recorded streams. Most of which were shorter than the advertisements that appeared before the videos LOL.
The first day went well - recorded fine - didn't have many viewers. The second and third days were disastrous - had 9 and 15 viewers on these days and USTREAM played up big time. But the crafters who joined me were awesome and persisted along with me, so a BIG thank you girls :)

I have decided to keep struggling through and trying to work it out though, as I've been having so much fun with everyone joining me. We've learned a lot from each other, tried and tested a few different techniques and had a blast!!!

But I decided to finish one of the pages off-camera and uploaded it to YouTube tonight so if you were one of those wonderful participants in today's stream who would like to check out the completed page, click here.

USTREAM Sign

Well, I've bit the bullet and I'm going to go live and recorded on USTREAM very soon!

I'll be creating various projects on USTREAM and will start with a mini album using the 7gypsies "gypsy market" 6x6 paper variety pack.

I would really like to stream in the evenings for the Australian market as the time difference for live streaming of the internationals is, for us, either in the wee hours of the morning or during the weekdays when a lot of us are working. Either way, we should have all areas covered - I hope everyone will join me from all corners of the globe! I'm thinking either Monday or Wednesday evenings here at around 8pm DST. I would love everyone's thoughts and see what times suit all of you.

In the meantime I've created a sign to be used as my USTREAM "logo" and I've uploaded the 3-part series in the making of the sign, and here are some pics.

Tag Time #8 - Happy Easter

I was just playing around last week and decided to finish the tag today whilst trying to organise the projects and files I've purchased. It's an Easter theme tag with lots of eggs! Check out my video on how I created this tag. Click here for Part 1 of the video.

OVA April Altered Item Challenge - Easter Decoration

Well, it's my second attempt at this challenge - I forgot to include the most important element of the first attempt at this challenge - the Easter Decoration! LOL. Oh well, I've had fun playing :)

So for the April Altered Item Challenge - Easter Decoration over at Our Vintage Affair we had to alter an item and decorate it Easter style.

Here's my entry-

Products and materials used:

12 tongue depressors (that's what they look like LOL) in lightweight timber, cut to size, chomped ends with the Zutter corner rounder, painted base coat burnt umber, painted on a layer of Derivan Matisse Crackling Medium, then painted on a mixture of white & bisque (cream).

I then hot glued all pieces together, then took some twine and tied it around the long "timber" pieces.

For the sign I used lightweight chipboard and cut a "tongue depressor" to size using my Tonic scissors for the post. Again, painted both the sign and the post - the base coat in burnt umber, then dry brushed the white/cream mixture over the brown base coat (I didn't use the crackling medium on this). Then took a wood-mounted stamp by Fern Gully Stamp (made in Australia), inked it up with Versamark, stamped it onto the sign, then used black superfine detail embossing powder by Stamp-It and heat set the sentiment. I hot glued the signpost to the sign.

Took some white "Shreds" by giftpackaging.com.au, glimmer misted it using Apple and Forest Moss.

I made a false bottom using white cardstock to give some height to the contents (I only had one pack of shreds), then added the easter eggs and finally set in the sign!

I went for the country-style look here with minimal "pretty" embellishments. Hope you like it and thanks for stopping by :)

SL3 Grungy Monday #2

Well, I think I've mastered the challenge - well we'll see LOL. The Grungy Monday challenge this week over at Studio L3 was Distress Ink with Studio Multi Medium based on Tim Holtz's video showing the technique.

I created a card with a background stamp of script and butterflies. I then stamped two butterflies and a dragonfly similar to the background stamp using Matt Medium. I stamped them at least half way off the original stamp so that it looks like the butterflies and dragonfly are flying off the page - well, that was the effect I was going for anyway LOL.

The materials I used were:

Green, gold and white cardstock for the card and mats

Chipboard for the Tim Holtz Tag & Labels Alterations die for the sentiment

Hero Arts Clings "Antique Background" for the background of the card

Derivan Matisse Matt Medium for stamping the butterflies and dragonfly

Two of the butterflies from the "Butterflies" clear stamps by Stampendous

Dragonfly stamp from the "Organic Grace" wood mounted set by Stampin' Up!

Distress inks used on the background were Bundled Sage and Stormy Sky

Glimmer Mists used on the sentiment were Patina and English Ivy

Rhinestones by Basics

Walnut Stain distress ink used to distress edges of card mat and labels die, and used the Tim Holts Distressing Tool to rough up the edges of the card mat

Ribbon from my stash

Adhesives were ATG tape, Scotch Quick Dry adhesive, Glossy Accents for ribbon and pop dots

Just playing around with an Easter Tag

I was just playing around with the Tim Holtz Multi Medium and Distress Inks technique where you stamp an image on a background using Multi Medium and when dry, cover the entire area with distress ink to reveal a see-through type image.

I was thinking about entering the Studio L3 Grungy Monday challenge #2 when I created this tag, but I wasn't happy with the technique so just decided to finish it up and put it aside for later use.

Photo Box or Frame - You Choose!

Well! It pays to read doesn't it! I was creating an altered object for the Our Vintage Affair (OVA) challenge and it seems I got carried away with the project, because I didn't use the "Easter Decoration" theme. Oh well, you live and learn, don't you!

Well, here it is anyway. I made it using the following:

* medium weight chipboard * acrylic paints * Crackling Medium * hot glue * metal hinges * Tim Holtz Hitch Fastener * Deja Views "Wedding" paper * Spellbinders Nestabilities "Labels Ten" dies * See Dee's vintage lady stamp * Prima Say it in Pearls * 25mm Foam Rose Head Blossoms by Vivaldi * Flower Fantasy embossing folder * various Tim Holtz distress inks * various Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists * some tiny flowers & a couple of feathers

The size of the box/frame is 4" x 6" with 1/2" strips for the height. The individual elements details are as follows:

The chipboard pieces cut - 2 @ 4" x 6", 4 @ 3" x 1/2", 4 @ 6" x 1/2". The chipboard base coat was painted with a mixture of burnt umber and black, dried, then a layer of Derivan water-based Crackling Medium and dried, then painted with a mixture of titanium white and bisque (cream).

I adhered the designer paper before attaching the hinges which resulted in trying to find a way to hide the brads, I decided to re-cover it with a new piece of the designer paper, distressed using the TH distressing tool then inked using TH Weathered Wood distress ink. I did this because I wanted to leave the inside cover free for a photo.

I used Weathered Wood and Pumice Stone distress inks for the labels die on the front of the box.

I adhered a piece of 4" x 6" foam on the bottom of the box frame but I didn't show this in the video.

I have uploaded an in-the-making video of this to show how and what I did to make this project. It was a long day making this one, I even cut my finger trying to cut the chipboard to 1/2" pieces (you'll see the bandaid in the video). Oh well, all in the name of scrapbooking :)

Clover Flower Frill

Here's another fabric flower that I'm loving at the moment. I recently bought a couple of Clover flower templates and tried one of them out tonight (the easier of the two) and these are the results. I'm thinking the yellow flower (I know, it looks like a peach colour, but trust me - it's yellow) looks like a carnation!

I've uploaded a couple of videos showing how I make these flowers, together with a tutorial on how to resize the flowers by making a new template from the Mothers Day Bouquet Cricut cartridge.

Technostamper Sketch Challenge #167

Well, it seems since I started using my blog the way it was meant to be I have been obsessed with updating it with challenges LOL. Well, that's a little white lie - Michelle (bohemiangypsy99 on YouTube) has really got me hooked on sketch challenges. We were skyping this afternoon while I was attempting to create this TechnoStamper challenge before we were so rudely interrupted by a storm!!!!

Anyway, I eventually finished the card sketch and so here it is!

The card base is a standard 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 size and I used a pretty pale lilac shade here. 1/4 inch down in size for the mat I used a deep purple shade of cardstock. The same two colours are used for the scalloped circles as well as a circle in a cream colour cardstock, on which I stamped using a fairy sitting on the moon stamp from the "Fairyland" clear stamp set from Crafty Secrets. I coloured the image using my Copic Sketch Markers (not real clever at using these just yet - I will learn no doubt). I also heat embossed the moon and stars of the stamped image using "Queen's Gold" emossing powder by Ranger. I also stamped the word "Dream" from the same stamp set by Crafty Secrets on the deep purple mat. The rectangle piece is a gold coloured cardstock which I dry embossed using the "Swiss Dots" embossing folder by Provo Craft (Cuttlebug). And finally, tied it all together with a sheer cream coloured ribbon & bow.

Studio L3 - Grungy Monday Number One - Tag

Studio L3 has started their new Tim Holtz Grungy Monday challenges and I'm IN!!!!! I love anything from the Timster!!! The challenge for this week was to create something using the Tim Holtz 12 Tags of Christmas 2008 - No.10 as a guide.

Although I seem to have created it as close to Tim's as I could, I think - oh well, maybe I'll grow with the challenge hehehe. We'll see!

I didn't have all the products used by Tim Holtz (most of them though). I've uploaded photos of each section that I worked on and products I used so that I didn't have to type up the entire list of contents because I used A LOT!!!

I really enjoyed this challenge and will be participating each week - can't wait for next Monday!!!

Tag Time #6 - Vintage Grunge Tag

I made a tag in a vintage/grunge style using lots of distress inks, alcohol inks, lots of stamps, lace, charms and a fabric flower.

I first distressed the #8 shipping tag using distress inks, then stamped using a clear script stamp (sorry, don't know where this one came from - I've had it for ages and do not have the packaging).

I then stamped various gears, cogs, vintage lady, fob watch, leaves and heat embossed a butterfly.

I then adhered a rose charm using a small section of chain which I adhered to the tag using Glossy Accents.

I took a silver metal flower and alcohol inked it using aqua, stream and black inks, placing a clear rhinestone in the centre and covering it with black alcohol ink and then topped it with a clear rhinestone. I then adhered it to the tag using glossy accents (I had to adhere it with hot glue as I was too impatient for the glossy accents to dry).

I cut the word "friends" using the Doodletype Cricut cartridge, cutting the word four times and stacked each of the four letters on top of each other creating a faux chipboard letter. I did this to all the letters of the word "friend".

I took a postcard piece of Graphic 45 "On the boardwalk" paper, grunged it using vintage photo distress ink, then distressed the edges using a distressing tool and inked it over with walnut distress ink. I rolled one corner section, then adhered the word "friends" to the postcard and adhered it to the tag.

I adhered the word "friends" to the postcard and attached it all to the tag.

I adhered a black feather to the tag, then adhered a fabric flower over the bottom of the feather.

I also placed some black Rhinestone flourishes (Passionate from Francheville) randomly over the tag below and above the postcard.

Once all items were attached I then cut a piece of cardboard to size, covered it using Stampin' Up!'s "Newsprint" designer paper, grunged it up using vintage photo distress ink and walnut stain distress ink. Adhered it to the back of the tag using my ATG.

Attached an eyelet, threaded through some fibres and a string of leather. Then took a Tim Holtz trinket pin and attached a bead charm made specifically for the tag.

This tag took me a few hours one day, then a few more hours the next day to complete. There were a lot of fiddly time consuming tasks involved with this tag - but I loved making it!!!

I have uploaded a video - well, there are two parts to the video - you wouldn't expect any less would you? It is me - the queen of the mini series LOL.

Precious Moments Paper Bag Mini Album

This is my latest mini album complete with photos & embellishments. This is the first of many minis for my granddaughter, Amelia. I'm hoping to document (written & graphic) certain moments in her life and give the albums to her when she's older.

This, the first of the minis, is of her birth, christening and various events throughout her young life.

The following is a list of the main products and various measurements used throughout the mini:

Paper used - Cosmo Cricket's Joy Ride mini deck

Paper bags - 3 1/4" by 5 1/4"

Binding hinges - 3 1/2" x 3 1/4" scored at 1", 1 3/4", 2 1/2"

Front & back cover chipboard cut at 6 1/2" x 3 3/4"

Front & back designer paper each cut at 9" x 4 3/4" scored 1/2" on two long and one short edge

Fabric Flowers

OMG! I followed Jules' tutorial on making Prima's newest fabric flowers, and it worked!!! I can't believe how easy it really was.

First I cut my satin material and some tulle to a 2" width strip (I made mine as long as the material was and just cut it off when finished). I then located my sewing machine (I haven't used it for the longest time) and held my breath testing it out. Yay it worked!

So then I pinned the tulle onto the folded satin strip and sewed away.

I then cut the excess off the sewed edge and seared it with a lighter to stop the satin fraying.

I then cut into the strip (1/4 inch sections) close to the sewn edge, right along the entire strip.

I then punched a 1 1/4" circle from cardstock, heated my glue gun and away I went attaching the satin & tulle strip to the circle.

This is the result! I love it! I'll be making more of these for sure!

I just can't stop making them!

I made this one into a headband. I used elasticised suede ribbon lace and attached it to the circle cardstock and covered that with some more satin. This one was made for my granddaughter, Amelia.

Attempting Jewellery Making

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge #33

This is a challenge hosted by Studio L3 and the challenge this week was to create an altered art piece using Tim Holtz alcohol inks & pens. I don't own the pens but I do own some alcohol inks so here's what I did:

Cut a piece of Aluminium Stucco sheet to an ATC size of 2.5" x 3.5"

Using various pinks, purples and brown colours in the alcohol inks, along with some blending solution, coloured the metal piece with the ink applicator

Coloured the butterfly charm using purple, pink, gold & black alcohol inks (using a paint brush)

Took a piece of thin metal cut to a circle, punched a hole and coloured it using gold mixative, silver mixative and black alcohol ink, punched the letter A into the metal, painted the black alcohol ink into the A groove

Took an angel silver charm and coloured it with alcohol inks in bronze & gold mixative alcohol inks, coloured the hair using a paint brush dipped in black alcohol ink, coloured the dress in Cranberry alcohol ink

Punched a hole in the corner of the metal ATC and attached a silver chain mixed in copper mixative, added jump rings attaching the circle and the butterfly.

I got a Cricut! I got a Cricut!!!

Hi everyone

I'm sooo excited! My hubby bought me a Cricut!!! Well, I bought it but he gave me the funds to do it LOL. I was a bit confused as to which one I should purchase but I surfed a bit to see where I should buy from and which design.

I eventually decided on the Cricket Create because it's the same size as the Cricut original (and portable) but with the functionality of the Cricut Expression. It cuts from 1/4" to 11 1/2" using a 6x12 piece of designer paper or cardstock, it has an 8 directional blade, portrait mode, fit-to-page mode, auto fill to mass produce cuts, centre point & flip funciton! All this and it's PORTABLE! Love, love, love it!

Did I mention that it's a limited edition BLACK Cricut?

It came with the Don Juan cartridge, and I also bought the Toy Story cartridge, along with the Printing Press cartridge.

The cartridges are VERY EXPENSIVE here in Australia - from $90 per cartridge. I'd just received an email from Custom Crops saying they were having a Cricut Sale so I surfed on over and saw a lot of the cartridges were priced around the $25! So, yes - I bought about ten of them LOL.

I've already used it to cut out the numbers for the advent calendar.

Advent Calendar - In Progress

Hi! I've taken a break from the kathyorta paper bag mini album (waiting on the binding before I embellish the album) and so I thought I'd get a head start on Christmas 2011 LOL.
So, once again, I'm following Kathy's USTREAM video - this time on her Advent Calendar project. It's a great project to make and give to the grandkids for their Christmas countdown. I'll have to make two of them so I thought I'd start now and maybe finish both before December 2011!
I've made all the boxes, adhered all the boxes together, added the centre image, added ribbon, lace & beads on the sides & edges, and covered & attached the backboard.
All that's left to do is embellish the centrepiece and add the numbers. Then attach a hanger.

OK, I'm sooooo excited! I've just ordered a new scrapping item which will help me finish this project - I'll leave you hanging until I receive it on Saturday :)

The paper bag mini album - so far

Hi! Since I found Kathy on YouTube and USTREAM I've become addicted to her creative projects. The current project is a paper bag mini album (with a difference!). I've never seen a paper bag mini put together like this so I just had to make it! Not only does Kathy show us how to make the album, she also shows us the embellishing process too.

I really wanted to make the black paper bag mini album using the Tim Holtz Lost & Found paper collection, but I am unable to get the black paper bags anywhere here in Australia. So...I opted to go with the plain brown paper bags, using the K & Company Wild Saffron paper collection.

Well, the mini's not finished yet but I thought I'd show what I've done up to now. Let me know what you think :)

I used some embroidery thread and a couple of buttons to make a closure.

Hi again everyone :)

OMG! There just never seems to be enough time to craft!! With soooooo many artists out there providing us with soooooo many different ideas and projects!

I've just found Kathy from Paper Phenomenon and OMG how good is she!!! Thank you Michelle (BohemianGypsy99 on YouTube) for telling me about Kathy. I've been so busy creating that I've done nothing else lately LOL. You guys should go check her out - her YouTube name is kathyorta.

You might also know, if you subscribe (and watch) my YouTube videos, that I'm into art journalling now - yes! Although, thanks to Paper Phenomenon, Following the Paper Trail (Laura Denison), and many others, I'm still scrappin'! I saw a video by Paula Phillips (JournalArtista) with her Art from the Couch series, and I became addicted! Paula began streaming her art through USTREAM and this resulted in the start of my first art journal. So thank you, Paula :)

Paula also introduced me to a few other artists to which I subscribe on USTREAM and learn so much. These people are Dede (Inkwell), Ky (Scrapacat) and Kerri (ikerrilove). These are the ladies I get so much of my inspiration from. So a BIG THANK YOU to all you ladies for being enablers :)

So if you're looking for something other than watching hauls and watching videos of "completed projects" pleeeeeeeaaaaaase check out the ladies I mentioned here. There's nothing more disappointing than watching a video of a completed project rather than watching the process. That's why I show the videos of the process, rather than the completed project. I know there are many artists out there who don't like looking at the process videos, but there are others who appreciate the process - it's how I learned the little that I know.

Okay, it's now time to go do some crafting :)

I should utilise my blog!

Hi everyone

It's been soooooooo long since I posted anything here on my blog. When I first created my blog it was because I needed one in order to join a scrapbooking community. I didn't really know what a blog was, let alone how to use it. I've since surfed many blog sites and realised (yes, it does take me a while to get it) how and why they are used.

What I found is that they are used for many, many different reasons. Some of which are:

let everyone know what you're doing at the moment
show pictures and videos of your work
let people know who you follow
let people know about all the creative people out there by showing links
have an area to store your template files for sharing with others
chatting

So having said that, it's long overdue that I update my blog LOL. I'm going to attempt to update it regularly and be more interactive, adding photos of and instructions to my work which I show on YouTube. So you'll probably get an overload of info in the next couple of days.

What Constitutes a "Scrapbook" Album?

Hi everyone

I started scrapbooking only a few years ago, so I'm relatively new to all this.
When I began puchasing all my scrapbook supplies I was told it was important to use ALL ACID FREE PRODUCTS as this would protect the life of your precious photos and albums. So that's the rule I apply to all my photo projects.

I have also been told that it's safe to use non-acid free items if they're not actually touching the photos, but even so, the non-acid free products will deteriorate through time.

YouTube and other web sites provide a vast source of information and tutorials from very helpful and some very artistic scrappers. This information is viewed by a very large number of people. The projects, hints and techniques are used by many. Quite a few are selling their scrapbook mini album kits. This is a valuable source to many scrappers who are not as confident with their ability to put together a mini album with co-ordinating supplies.

However, there are many scrappers out there who assume that all the products supplied in these kits are ACID FREE. What about all the young scrappers out there? What are we teaching them? Maybe we're naive, or just too trusting, to think that all the bits and pieces in the kits are photo-safe. Mostly they are, however there have been quite a few lately that I've seen using paper bags, old book pages, cereal packaging for chipboard, corrugated cardboard, used envelopes, pictures printed using non-laser printers, etc. What about giving these mini albums as gifts? Does the recipient know exactly what has been used in the making of these minis?

What I cannot understand is why we are paying a lot of money for our scrapping supplies (papers, inks, chipboard, embellishments) and then we go and use non-acid free items in the project! Why don't we just use cheaper paper? Non-acid free glues and tapes?

So what is scrapbooking?

The Oxford dictionary defines the word scrapbook as "a book of blank pages for sticking cuttings, drawings, or pictures in". So technically you can use any medium you prefer on your albums.

Confused? I still am. Are there no rules at all? Each to their own? I would like to know however, that for any kits I may want to purchase, whether or not they are 100% acid free. So all you talented scrappers out there selling kits - pleeeeeeeaaaaaaaaase let us know if there are any non-acid free items in the kits, then it will be up to us individually as to what we do with the items if we purchase the kits.

I've started Marisa's album for the August Mini Album Trade and thought I'd give her a sneak peak at what to expect. Also to let her know that it won't be long before I'm finished and able to send it to Marisa :).

Eyelets - Can anyone help me?

Hi girls
I've had so much trouble trying to find eyelets big enough for my mini albums.
I have some great eyelets from Stampin' Up (jumbo eyelets in the bronze & silver) but they are so expensive.
The only other eyelets I can find are too small to go through the thickness of my mini album pages.
Also, I don't really know how to check the sizes - what the mm refers to - diameter or length of the middle cylinder??? It's so frustrating trying to buy these on line.
Can anyone help me pleeeeeeeaaaaaaaase!!!!

I made this book today for my niece, Danielle for her birthday on Monday. The book is an envelope mini album which has 12 pockets, one for each month of the year. Each tag has an area to note down birthdays for each of her friends & family.
